Natural and Supernatural Beauties

Supernatural beings such as ghosts, sea dragons and fantastic plants and animals “obsess” the artists of this issue as much as the very real beauty of nature as we known it: Inspired by the probably most successful ghosts and ghost hunters in film history, the „Ghostbusters“, Australian Daniel Power painted a fan poster for the 2021 spin-off „Ghostbusters Afterlife“ and sold it successfully via a Kickstarter campaign. In his interview and making-of he’s giving us an insight into this project. Furthermore, US artist Marque Terrynamahr Strickland is sending the little girl Mushy on a journey of discovery into imaginative flora and fauna in his artwork and related step-by-step.

We are especially pleased to show you the spectacular underwater bodypainting project „Lost Treasures“ by Peter and Petra Tronser which was meant to build a bridge between commercial benefit and the environmentally conscious respectful treatment of nature. The beauty of nature is also presented by the Italian artist Enrico Violante with a close-up still-life image of shiny crisp cherries. Melina Wuggonig from Austria appreciates the busy and so much important work of bees by showing in her artwork a bee collecting honey in honeycombs. And also the beauty of a woman is savoured by Canadian artist Paul Butvila, portraying her in an erotic leather suit on a white fur background.

Last but not least, we are presenting you with an interview with Chia-Chi Chen, company president of Sparmax. She gives us an insight into the Taiwanese company, whose headquarters are so far away and whose products nevertheless now play a major role in shaping the airbrush market worldwide.

By the way: Do you have any plans or good resolutions for the new year? How about this: Share your airbrush art with us! Send us a photo of your art for the readers‘ gallery or document the complete process for a step-by-step. Just send both by e-mail to info@airbrush-magazin.de. You can also find tips on creating Step by Steps and submitting artworks on our website at http://airbrush-magazine.net/get-published.

We wish you a creative, healthy and prosperous New Year!

Best wishes from the ASBS Team

Honeycomb – Animal illustration
In addition to the bee, the coloring and structure of honeycombs, as well as the relationship between sharp and blurred areas, provide artistic challenges that Austrian artist Melina Wuggonig successfully masters.

Mushy – Fantasy illustration
Marque Terrynamahr Strickland sends little girl Mushy on a journey of discovery into imaginative flora and fauna. Marque uses the airbrush to create soft gradients and base textures, combining them with pencils, markers and brushes.

Cherries – Food illustration
Italian artist Enrico Violante finds cherries not only tasty but also visually interesting, and created a detailed illustration based on a photo template.

Fifty Shades of Grey – Erotic portrait

The image is undoubtedly reminiscent of the erotic bestseller of the same name – but the shiny leather corset fits just as well into the motto of Paul Butvila’s motif series „Gotta Wear Shades“.

Interview / Making-Of
Lost treasures – A body painting project by Peter and Petra Tronser

In September 2020, under the direction of the artist couple Peter and Petra Tronser, an unprecedented bodypainting shoot took place underwater, in the open sea, at a depth of up to 30 meters in Cyprus.

Ghostbusters Afterlife – Daniel Power’s Ghostbusters Fan Art

Australian airbrush artist Daniel Power is an absolute movie fan and expert. When the sequel to the popular Ghostbusters movies hit theaters in 2021 with „Ghostbusters Legacy,“ Daniel designed a fan art poster and marketed it through a Kickstarter campaign.
