Paper and Boards

Papers and boards for airbrushing need smoothness, strength, and low absorbency so the paint sits cleanly on the surface without feathering.

  • Bristol Board — Very smooth, stiff, and low‑absorbent. Great for fine detail, masking, and crisp edges. Ideal for illustration and graphic work.

  • Yupo Synthetic Papers  — Non‑porous, extremely smooth, and durable. Paint sits on the surface, allowing sharp detail and easy lifting. Requires careful handling because paint can scratch off.

  • Illustration Board — A rigid surface with a smooth paper facing. Excellent for detailed work, masking, and mixed media. Holds up well to repeated paint layers.

Tracing and transfer papers are used to move artwork from one surface to another.

  • Tracing paper is a thin, semi‑transparent sheet that lets you see and copy an image beneath it. Artists use it to refine sketches, test compositions, or build layered drawings without committing to a final surface.
  • Transfer paper is a coated sheet that deposits a line onto another surface when pressure is applied. It works like a reusable, artist‑grade version of carbon paper.
